Bill Curry, a name synonymous with integrity in the coaching profession, is the first head coach of Georgia State University's new football program. The Atlanta native and former head coach at Georgia Tech, Alabama and Kentucky, Curry participated in three Super Bowls and two Pro Bowls while in the NFL. In 2007, he was recognized by the American Football Coaches Association with the Amos Alonzo Stagg Award, which honors someone "whose services have been outstanding in the advancement of the best interests of football." The following year, he received the President Gerald R. Ford Legends Center Award, presented annually to someone playing the center position at the college or professional level, has made extraordinary contributions during his football career and proven an exemplary citizen, philanthropist or leader in the business or football community.
